Arias at a Glance
I sat through the whole of the Arias last night (ok, ok so maybe I was also watching Fantastic Four) so I could give you guys the low down on what happened.
So firstly, Silverchair kicked ass and got all five of the awards they were nominated for. These included best group, single of the year and highest selling single for Straight Lines, best rock album and the one everyone wants, album of the year for Young Modern. This huge haul makes Silverchair the most successful Aria winners ever with the band having now won 19 awards.
I'm pretty shocked that Powderfinger didn't win anything. But then, in every category they were up against Silverchair. I wonder if this will make things awkward between the two bands since they are touring the country together with their Across the Great Divide tour? I know that if I were Daniel Johns, I'd be rubbing it in at every opportunity, but that's just me.
Sneaky Sound System were nominated for six awards, the most of the night, but only walked away with two. Why am I saying only? Two is pretty freaking awesome for your first Arias. They won them for best dance release and best breakthrough artist for their self titled album.
Quickly running through the rest of the awards, Operator Please won the breakthrough single category for "Just a song about ping pong", John Butler Trio won best independant release and blues and roots, Sarah Blasco won best pop release, Missy Higgins won best female artist and some fella who calls himself Gotye won best male artist. Keith Urban won best country album, The Wiggles with best children’s album and Nick Cave was inducted into the Aria Hall of Fame.
Now onto the good stuff. Did anyone wonder why Daniel Johns wore sunnies inside the arena all night? I know its all very rock and roll, but I thought it was a bit pretentious of him. Turns out Ray Ban paid him $7000 to wear them all night. I was just thinking that it was stupid, because you couldn't tell what type of glasses they were on TV, and then just realized just by talking about it, that I have unintentionally plugged them. So, not such a stupid idea after all.
Then there was Sneaky Sound System with their huge entourage. They decided that since they were nominated for so many awards that they should bring everyone they know. They bought 40 people with them; yes that's right, 40. Too bad they didn't win as many as they expected.
Another gem was Nicole Kidman's attire. Did anyone see what she was wearing? Looked really stupid? She was wearing a jacket indoors. Anyone know why? Because she noticed at the last minute in the limo that her dress was completely see through. Obviously the hubby was a more preoccupied with his own looks then his wife’s.
